A CASED PAIR OF 30-BORE PERCUSSION OFFICER'S PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1850, with browned damascus smooth-bore octagonal 9in. barrels, the top-flats signed WESTLEY RICHARDS BIRMINGHAM', bead fore-sights, borderline and scroll engraved breech-blocks with fenced snails, sighting notch to the borderline and scroll engraved top-tangs, borderline and scroll engraved curved back-action locks signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS', scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers, walnut full-stocks with coarsely chequered bag-shaped butts, blued iron trigger-guards and captive iron ramrod, both pistols retaining much finish and colour; together with their makers brass-mounted walnut storage case compartmented and lined in red baize (renewed in parts) and containing a number of period accessories including a mould, a flask, a loading mallet, nipple-key and turnscrew, renewed trade-label to inside of lid.
